Beat The Heat! – 4 Tips to Keep Your Home Cool!

Beat The Heat – Keep Your Home Cool! This week, the UK is expecting another heatwave. It has been announced that a heat-health alert has been announced across the country.

Did you know that UK homes are typically designed for colder weather?

We want our customers, clients, and homes across Sussex to keep safe in this weather, so here are some tips to use at home to keep yourselves cool.

KEEP THOSE WINDOWS CLOSED

Closing windows—especially ones that face south—stops heat from entering your house.

After doing this, drawing your curtains or blinds will also be beneficial.

Although most homes don’t have them, the government advises lowering any exterior blinds or shutters. (Contact us if you would like to have some of these installed!)

In order to prevent heat from being reflected inside if you have glass doors that open into a patio, you should cover the patio that is closest to the doors.

Draw Curtains and Pull Down Blinds

Drawing your curtains or closing your blinds in the rooms that receive the most sunshine will help to keep them cool. This is especially important in bedrooms that receive afternoon sun if you want them to be comfortable places to sleep at night.

SWITCH OLD WINDOWS FOR MORE ENERGY FRIENDLY ONES

Although you might have only considered double and triple-glazed windows as a way to keep your home warmer in the winter, they can also help to keep it cooler in the summer.

These glazing kinds essentially prevent heat from passing from the interior to the outside and vice versa.

Ceiling Fan

Like electric fans, ceiling fans merely produce a pleasant breeze in a space rather than actually reducing the temperature.

The greatest recommendation is to rotate your ceiling fan counterclockwise during the summer. As a result, the air is forced down instead of around the entire room.
